RMB20 billion! Gusu Lab settles in Suzhou

Materials Science Gusu Lab (Gusu Lab for short) was officially inaugurated yesterday, when the lab was also awarded the title of "Laboratory of Jiangsu Province". Over 60 academicians and experts in the field of materials science from home and abroad have been invited to serve on the lab's Strategy Advisory Committee to contribute to its development.

A total investment of RMB 20 billion yuan

Located in the Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District, SIP, the Gusu Lab involves a total investment of RMB20 billion yuan and its headquarters cover an area of 500 mu (approx. 33 hectares).

Three key R&D directions

Currently, the Gusu Lab has defined its primary R&D fields as electronic information material, life and health material, energy and environmental material.

Development keywords: two five-year plans, one world-class lab

After the first five-year plan (Phase I), the Gusu Lab is to have a team of 1,000+ talents engaged in scientific research, technology or management, and make breakthroughs in a batch of core and basic scientific problems and major common technical problems in the area of materials science.

At the end of the second five-year plan (Phase II), the Gusu Lab is to see its backbone personnel exceed 3,000, obtain a series of landmark original achievements, join the club of world-class materials labs, and become a globally influential international innovation source and a national strategic scientific and technological innovation base for materials science.

Suzhou Municipal Government concluded cooperation agreements with Chinese Academy of Sciences and University of Science and Technology of China on the same day.

Besides, the Gusu Lab signed agreements respectively with a number of universities and leading companies, including Nanjing University, Sciences and University of Science and Technology of China, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Soochow University, ZTT Group, JiangsuNata Opto-electronic Material Co., Ltd . and SKY Technology Development.
